"The LFE channel is recorded with a level offset of -10 dB. This 10dB difference is dictated by Dolby and DTS, and the international standard ITU-R BR.1384-1: It will only sound correct when fed to an amplifier that amplifies LFE by 10dB more than it amplifies the other channels. A 75dB SPL signal on the LFE channel will be 3 times, or 10dB, smaller than a 75dB SPL signal on the other channels. So at all points in a system - analogue interconnects, PCM signals, encoded Dolby Digital - the LFE channel is "10dB too low". It's a channel where by convention everything is recorded 10dB low to make room for louder bangs. This, indeed, is the whole raison d'être of the LFE channel. The potential extra volume of the LFE channel could not pass through interconnects, analogue recordings or digital recordings without going over the specified limits by a factor of 3. One important point is that the 10dB boost to the LFE is performed at the final amplification stage. Just ignore the 1st paragraph because it is out of context.Ĭlick to expand. From this tutorial (or another one like it): Ooooops, I just realized this is a different thread (but similar topic) that I've been writing on simultaneously so my comments probably don't make sense. What you did is exactly what you should be doing - getting the sub balanced with everything else, so (as I said earlier) nothing is overwhelmed or underwhelmed. 5 or 1.0db increments (regardless of source) which is available in the speaker volume settings, no? If so, then this is simply for fine tuning your sub levels to balance it with the other speakers. I assume you are referring to the +/- 15db volume adjustment in. Or as I described in my earlier post, my pre-pro has a set-up setting specifically to address this problem - adjusting the LFE, by source, in 10db increments. Thus the need to "manually" add +10db in some circumstances for SACDs. The D/A processor should automatically add the required +10db to the LFE channel during D/A conversion, but in some circumstances - notably DSD bitstreamed to a receiver where the DSD to PCM to Analog conversion occurs - this sometimes doesn't happen properly. It's a complicated issue and it took me a while to wrap my head around it. Still, it is the end result that counts, and that is what you are experiencing.Ĭlick to expand.I think you're misunderstanding the LFE "boost" issue. Otherwise you can only infer what is happening. an "Error Correction" indicator and a "bit-rate / format" indicator. Ideally you need displays to tell you if this is happening, e.g. This will ruin any micro-detail (loss of image, ambience). While avoiding clicks and skips, it does result in estimated/approximate data which again is not bit perfect. (2) error correction technologies, which are present in all digital media, can result in the player fudging missing data that has been lost due to network losses, CD read errors, etc. This means you do not get bit-perfect output from a lossless file. You can bandwidth limit the stream (for slow Wifi) so the Squeezebox server will automatically convert lossless FLAC down to lossy MP3 for transmission to the player. ![]() I know it is possible with my Squeezebox system. (1) some replay systems will transcode the output stream. The application is not crippled in any way if no donation is made, although donations are appreciated as they help us continue improving the software and providing new tools :) NOTE: SMBUp installs Samba, which in turn replaces Apple’s OS X’s native netbios and SMB services. Make sure you edit those users’ groups to reduce their number. Keep in mind that while the application will allow you to create users for accessing authenticated shares it will only warn if those users have more than 15 groups assigned to them, even though OS X Lion won’t allow such users to authenticate properly. The checkbox is based on the system of honor: It won’t do any verification on whether the donation has effectively been made. A reminder will appear upon startup once a day it can be dismissed by checking the donation checkbox. SMBUp re-instates Samba as a service of your mac and provides a simple interface to manage the service.
